General Comments:
My passion is supporting people in managing their life’s issues. I have significant regard for each individual’s potential in dealing with life’s frustrations. The key to a successful therapeutic relationship is extensive therapeutic knowledge offered with respectful and confidential support coupled with your, the client’s, desire for change.
I have a PhD in Clinical Psychology from Seattle Pacific University along with a Masters Degree in Business and a Bachelors Degree in Education. My experience includes working in an inpatient psychiatric hospital treating and assessing children, adolescents and adults. I was a counselor at the Student Counseling Center at a major public university. I have been involved in the field of counseling since 1984. My practice experience includes individuals, couples, families, and groups.
I have worked with clients for anxiety, depression, trauma, ADHD, Aspergers Syndrome, social and interpersonal skills, self esteem, pain management, behavior modification, anger, and grief among many other issues. I have experience supporting clients with stress management, Chronic Fatigue Syndrome and fibromyalgia. I have supported career development and career change, divorce mediation, and personal growth plans.
In working with couples, I recognize there is significantly more to healing the relationship than teaching each partner to “communicate better” or “fight fairly”. Marital therapy may need to incorporate insight to a number aspects brought to the relationship. These may include issues from family of origin, ethnic background, sexuality, workplace or financial stresses, or parenting styles. Couples counseling is not only for spouses, but also can be for friends, committed realtionships, GL, pre-marital, or multi-ethnic concerns.
I have been fortunate enough to have lived and worked in numerous countries. I have a strong appreciation of and sensitivity for ethnic influences. I am a mother, step mother and grandmother. My research focus is based on stress and wellness. I have experience with the business, banking, manufacturing, and the engineering world. I have given presentations both nationally and internationally. I am an adjunct professor at a local university.
