General Comments:
STEPHEN C. HALPERT, PSY.D. was awarded his doctorate in Clinical Psychology from Wright State University in 2000, and his Master's degree in Counseling from Arcadia University in 1996. He completed his postdoctoral training at the University of California, Berkeley's Counseling and Psychological Services Center and his predoctoral internship at Michigan State University's Counseling Center and Multi-Ethnic Counseling Center Association program. All degree granting institutions and training sites were accredited by the American Psychological Association.
Dr. Halpert is a member of several professional organizations including the American Psychological Association, the California Psychological Association, and the Association for the Advancement of Behavioral Therapy. He has published in numerous professional journals in areas such as supervision, ethics, depression, suicide, and sexual orientation issues. Although trained as a generalist, specialty areas include cognitive-behavioral therapy, sexual orientation/sexual identity issues, domestic violence, anxiety/mood disorders, and diversity issues.
Dr. Halpert's private practice consists of adults and older adolescents for individual and couples therapy. Competitive rates and sliding scale fees are available. The office is conveniently located on Shattuck Avenue at Ashby, and is accessible by AC transit or BART.

To schedule an appointment, please call (510) 848-2921. If I am unavailable to take your call, please leave a brief message with your name, number, and the best days/times to reach you and I will return your call as soon as possible.
If you are unable to keep your appointment, kindly give 24 hours notice. Remember that most insurance companies will not reimburse for “no-shows” or late cancellations.
If you are a new client, please bring any information with you that may be helpful, such as name and address of other healthcare professionals you are receiving or may have received services from; health insurance information; previous records, and so on.
Payment is due at the time of service unless other arrangements have been made ahead of time. If there are extenuating financial circumstances now or at any time in the future, please feel free to discuss them with me.
The contents of a counseling or consultation session are considered to be confidential. It is my policy not to release any information about a client without a signed release of information.

My office is conveniently located near the University of California, Berkeley, on Shattuck Avenue at Ashby, and is accessible by AC Transit (the 43 bus runs along Shattuck and the 6 runs along Ashby) or BART. Exit at the Ashby BART station and walk 1 block east to Shattuck.
From 580: Take 580 West ramp toward Berkeley/San Francisco and bear right on CA-24 East ramp toward Berkeley/Walnut Creek. Take the 51st Street Exit toward Martin Luther King Jr. Way. Take 51st Street and turn right onto 52nd Street. Turn Left on Shattuck.
From San Francisco (80): Take Bay Bridge (80) toward Oakland. Take 80 East/580 West toward Berkeley/Sacramento/San Rafael and continue on 580 West. Take CA-13 exit toward Ashby Ave./Bay Street and take exit toward Ashby Avenue. Continue onto CA-13 and turn left on Shattuck.
