Dear Colleagues,

This last week was National Inhalants and Poisons Awareness Week. According to a recent nationwide survey by the American Academy of Pediatrics, one-quarter of the 600 young people surveyed said their friends "huff" hazardous substances.

"Parents worry about alcohol and drugs, but may not realize that home products also pose a substance abuse hazard," said AAP President Joel J. Alpert, MD, FAAP. "Abusing inhalants can cause severe permanent damage, especially to the brain." Today's FPN focuses on drug and inhalant abuse.
