Dear Colleagues,

Obesity is a serious health problem. In the US approximately 35% of women and 31% of men are considered obese. Obese persons are at higher risk for comorbid medical conditions including hypertension, diabetes, coronary heart disease, and sleep apnea. Although most studies show no differences in psychologic function between obese and non-obese persons, obesity is associated with reduced self-esteem, higher rate of disability, early retirement, and discrimination.
