The goal of these programs is to raise public awareness of eating disorders and the societal attitudes that contribute to this problem. 1. NATIONAL EATING DISORDERS SCREENING PROGRAM
National Screening
Screening takes place February 14-18, 2000, at hospitals, mental health centers, and high school and college campuses. Participants are provided with a self-screening test, educational materials, and an opportunity to talk with a health professional.

Obesity is a chronic disease that affects many people and often requires long-term treatment to promote and sustain weight loss. As in other chronic conditions, such as diabetes or high blood pressure, long-term use of prescription medications may be appropriate for some individuals.
