Dear Colleagues,

Covered entities under HIPAA have been given a temporary reprieve from compliance with the electronic claims rule. The deadline for compliance was October 16. Although the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services announced in September that it would accept noncompliant electronic transactions after October 16 to give providers additional time to comply, the transition to standardized electronic claims will occur. Health care providers are encouraged to use this time for end-to-end testing of their electronic claims systems. Additional information is found at http://www.cms.hhs.gov/
