November 22 - 28 is National Family Caregivers' Week. Today's newsletter is primarily
focused on caregivers, who are sometimes called the "hidden victims" of
age-related health problems. Caregivers, often in need of counseling or services
themselves, are eager to find information about the problems which affect them and their
loved ones. Increasingly, they are turning to the Internet for information and support. I
hope these sites will help in that effort.
3. FAMILY CAREGIVER ALLIANCE Caregiver Assessment in Practice Settings
Changes in the way healthcare is delivered have shifted much of the caregiving responsibility to family and loved ones.
4. NATIONAL
INSTITUTE ON AGING Working with Older Patients: Talking About Sensitive Subjects
Many older people have a “don’t ask/don’t tell” relationship with doctors about health care problems, especially about sensitive subjects, such as urinary incontinence or sexuality.
8. NATIONAL INSTITUTE ON AGING Forgetfulness: It's Not Always What You Think
A lot of people experience memory lapses. Some memory problems are serious, and others are not. People who have serious changes in their memory, personality, and behavior may suffer from a form of brain disease called dementia. Dementia seriously affects a person's ability to carry out daily activities. Alzheimer's disease is one of many types of dementia.
